Anna Brown, Co-Convener, Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby

We're very excited and extremely proud to report that Anna Brown is the inaugural recipient  the GLBTI Person of the Year in recognition of the incredible work she does both for the VGLRL and in her role as Director of Strategic Litigation at the Human Rights Law Centre.

Anna's work in particular over the past year has included being part of the legal team representing Australian Marriage Equality in the ACT vs Commonwealth High Court case on the ACT marriage legislation.

Anna's worked with Victoria Police to secure an apology for the Tasty Nightclub raid as well as worked with the community and on behalf of clients of the HRLC to ensure Victoria legislated to expunge historical homosexual convictions.

She is a tireless campaigner and leader in our community and we're so pleased that GLOBE Melbourne chose to recognise the tremendous work she has done in the Community Awards.

Anna was unfortunately unable to accept the award in person on the night as her work saw her attending an international meeting in Kenya on the United Nations and strategic litigation for the right to assembly. Anna's sister, Robyn was present on the night to receive the honour.
